This being the month of Feb and Valentine’s day right around the corner, I was thinking of Love and Hearts and Valentine Cards etc.  In our crazy hectic world we love lots of things.  I loved that book, I loved that Chinese food we had last night, I loved that movie, look at that car, I love it.   Those statements all roll off our tongues so easily.  But how come when we love a person or a friend sometimes it is hard to get those words out of our mouth.  We always associate them with a long term commitment when we talk about people and relationships, but when we make references like those above they are really fleeting.  The number one song, game or movie today is old news tomorrow and tomorrow you would be embarrassed to say you love it.  So is it that we don’t understand the definition of the word, or we are faking the sincerity of the use of it.  One of the things I continually try to stress to the group is that we can say we love each other, but the words are just words, if you don’t truly mean them.   Especially as young adults it is hard for them to understand the difference sometimes between Like and Love.  True love comes from the selflessness and acts of kindness you do on a daily basis even when no one asks or is looking putting that person before yourself in everything.  That is what the Lord did for us all, he loves us all so much that he willingly laid down his life for us.  On Valentine’s day let’s try to remember the depth of that love.  Outwardly display our feelings to our Loved ones.   Give those kids a hug for no apparent reason, tuck them in at night even if they are 16.  Let them know by showing them the unconditional love we all have for them.  Bring that sick friend a pot of soup.  Let that shut in know you were thinking about them.  Should be fairly easy, especially since we are the good and faithful servants and followers of Christ.  We all do that….right!  But the more difficult issue regarding love is in this verse that our Lord spoke from the book of Matthew:

Mat 5:44  But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; It is always easy to love the Lord and what he has us do as long as it is easy.  Our true strength and Love for him is shown when we do what he asks when it is difficult. As always I wish the Peace and Love that only knowing and walking with Christ can bring for you all! Almost forgot, isn’t it cool that our Youth Group’s Symbol is a HART!
